To reduce loneliness, whilst the Committee would love to end loneliness, we are realistic regarding what goals busy people can achieve. Therefore, our aim is to reduce loneliness and improve the sense of connectivity in the local community. Ultimately, we aim to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and those around them. Research shows that loneliness can lead to –
• health implications,
• depression, anxiety, panic attacks, reduced optimism, low self-esteem
• substance abuse, alcohol, prescribed medication,
• social exclusion,
• mental health conditions,
• negative feeling of self-worth,
• hopelessness,
• suicide
Our ideal Aim is to have an impact in reducing the rates of each of the areas listed. Significant benefits can be gained by reducing loneliness, including but certainly not limited to – enhancing self-esteem, health, ability to function in society and financially.
